About Nick

I love triathlon; everything it involves and stands for. Challenging yourself to improve, manage your time to get training done and staying focused on your end goal. But ultimately enjoying doing what you love!  I started triathlon in 2001 with a novice race on a borrowed bike, falling off in transition and getting cramp on the run!  It didn’t put me off and it has been my passion ever since.  Many years on and I have been fortunate to win national titles and represent my country at multiply age group European and World championships – being crowned age group World Champion twice in both Sprint and Olympic distances. Since retiring from racing in 2013 to focus more on coaching I have again been fortunate to have worked with some great people from complete beginners to professionals. I’ve guide people to complete their first events, as well as coaching two athletes to age group world champion status in 2016.

Through working on our triathlon race tours and training camps I get to meet literally hundreds of triathletes every year at all levels and experiences which not only inspires me but also helps me to develop as a coach – no triathlete is the same so working with so many different ones opens your eyes to how different methods and approaches work for different people!

As well as coaching on the training camp I offer coaching on a one to one basis and online (remote coaching) working closely with the athlete to make sure they have a bespoke program to suit their goals and lifestyle. Although I plan the programs, they are a joint effort between the athlete myself, it is my job is to ensure it works for them, is realistic but also develops them to achieve whilst maintaining the fun in training for triathlon.

I am a huge believer in a quote I read once and try to stick to this mantra for everything I do:

“A goal without a plan is just a wish”

I hope I can help you plan to make your goal more than a wish!

What Nicks Athletes Say:

I’ve worked with Nick for 2 years and have improved hugely in biking which was my weakness. Although swimming was my strongest discipline, I have improved in this area after doing a swim analysis filmed by Nick and following specific swim sets designed to help me improve. He is great at discussing what works for me taking into account my work schedule. My greatest achievement has to be winning my age group in sprint distance at the world championships in Mexico in 2016. Thanks Nick for keeping me going and guiding me this far – you’ve got your work cut out in 2017 guiding me to the middle distance!

I decided to take on Nick as my coach after securing an age group spot at the World Duathlon Championships in September 2010. It was a late decision on my behalf with only twelve weeks remaining pre-race, despite this short time period Nick quickly assessed my abilities and started to build me really useful weekly programmes. Nick and I have been working together remotely and it has worked well with real flexibility from Nick taking into account the realties of balancing work, family and training. Weekly programmes give me better structure and a greater variety than I was setting myself previously. Since racing in Edinburgh I have continued to work with Nick to help me towards my goals for 2011 and to keep my training “alive”. His help on my swimming has been particularly useful and I feel like I’m making progress on my weakest leg.  Working with Nick certainly helped prepare me for my first really big event, his experience and motivational words ensured that I had a great day in Edinburgh.  No b******t Coach I do appreciate your input!

Being new to triathlon, I decided that it would be in my best interest to try and find someone who could help me with my training and maybe improve my overall performance in each sport. I came across Nick Dunn through word of mouth so I decided to give him a call and after a great chat about how he would work with me I decided to give it a go. I always found it hard trying to plan my weekly training sessions , struggling to mix things up from one week to the next. So Nick now plans my weekly training schedule and I cant believe the improvements to my swimming, biking and running. Having only been coached by Nick for 4 months, I have seen my swim time for 400m come down from 6.56 to 5.40 which is massive to me as I could barely swim a year ago.  I’m a better runner due to his varied running schedules he gives me, and I have become so much stronger on the bike too. Overall I’ve become such a stronger/fitter athlete than i thought possible in such a short time thanks to Nick.
