WALCHSEE AUSTRIA – JUST AMAZING

Walchsee Austria, we can’t tell you how amazing this location is for all things triathlon. Home of Challenge Walchsee Middle Distance 70.3 race, one of the most picturesque races on the planet. To be honest its like training on the set of ‘The Sound of Music’. The smooth mountain roads snake through the mountain region with little traffic, and the lake water is spring fed, so clean you can actually drink it, and at a constant temperature of about 20 degrees. We use the lake paths for run training, a slightly undulating route that takes you around the lake and through the pretty mountain meadows.

Your Safety On Camp
We have worked extensively with our accommodation partner to ensure your safety during the COVID-19 crisis. The hotel have introduced strict hygiene measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and guests are requested to comply by these measures to keep everyone safe and well.

YOUR TRAINING CAMP

Fancy a short triathlon training break? Just a short hop on the plane to Munich and then a transfer to Walchsee, Austria, will find you in a triathletes paradise. This short break camp is designed for both new and experienced triathletes who want to come and get a few days of swim, bike and run training with not one specific goal race or distance in mind.

This 3 night camp is based from a traditional lakeside Austrian hotel with half board meal plan. The hotel offers an indoor heated pool, fully equipped gym and spa with steam room and sauna..

Swim: We will swim in the fantastic Walchsee lake so don’t forget to bring your westuit

Bike: All athletes are assessed on Day 1 to establish riding strengths and skills and grouped accordingly. Rides are varied by terrain and distance, rolling flats and mountain rides from 50k to 100k. We operate a no-drop policy so no athlete gets left behind.

Run: Brick runs, drills and technique work, and tempo runs are guided by our coaches. These sessions can be either road or off road and are suitable for all athletes.

Strength and Core: Most days finish with a strength or core session to complete your training day. These sessions are designed to complement the training effect for the day.

Coaching: Challenge Tri Camp provide a high coach to athlete training ratio with the opportunity for one to one sessions to work on your individual requirements.

Hello from Brent & Nick, we are professional triathlon coaches – Challenge Tri Camp is our full time job. THE TRAINING SCHEDULE

The main sessions start on the Friday morning with a swim followed by a ride and then a brick run. We swim, bike and run most days. The swims are in the freshwater lake 100m from the hotel. It is mandatory for athletes to swim in a wetsuit during the lake swims for health and safety insurance purposes.

The first ride (approx 60-65km) is an assessment ride where we ask athletes to self seed themselves in the ride groups and the coaches then assess to make sure each athlete is in the right group for the camp. The rides build in distance over the three days and range from flat and rolling, to mountain rides with quite a bit of descending and climbing. Depending on each ride groups abilities determines the distances that are achieved by the end of the camp. We operate a no-drop policy so no athlete gets left behind to find their own way back to the hotel, there is always a coach on hand to support any back markers. The last day of coached activities is Sunday and the sessions will finish during the mid afternoon.

CHALLENGE TRI CAMP HEAD COACHES

BRENT PERKINS

Joint Head Coach

Challenge Tri Camp

I began my sporting career as a runner before moving into triathlon, and haven’t looked back since. I have competed in races of all distances all over the world including multiple Ironmen and 70.3s I also hold age group titles and have raced at both ITU World and ETU European level. I have previously coached and delivered training camps for Team GB Age Group triathletes working towards team selection as well as athletes looking to achieve more varied goals, such as becoming a first time Ironman finisher. I have a natural empathy with Age Group athletes who are trying to balance the demands of our sport with a hectic work lifestyle and with limited amounts of time to train. Getting results is a key Challenge Tri Camp coaching principle so I work very closely with my athletes to prepare for the race. As a qualified coach, and a British Triathlon Team Manager, as well as a Certified Training Peaks Coach, I draw on lessons learnt and my experiences over two decades in running, multi-sports, cycling and swimming to help guide my athletes to achieving personal Swim, Bike, Run and Triathlon goals. I am a strong believer in communication with my athletes, so I do not limit contact. I look forward to working with you.

Challenge Tri Camp

After winning my second age group World Championship Gold medal in 2013 I knew I wanted to finish my racing days on a high and focus on coaching. I knew it was time as I was more interested in helping others than my own sessions towards the end of my training days and I have not looked back since. I get more from coaching and seeing others achieving their goals than I did when racing! I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some great people from complete beginners to professionals. I have helped guide people to their first events as well as recently in 2016 coaching two athletes to Age Group World Champion status. As well as coaching on Challenge Tri Camps triathlon training camps, I offer coaching on a one to one basis and online working closely with my athletes to make sure they have a bespoke programme. All of my bespoke coaching programmes are designed to the Challenge Tri Camp principles of coaching. These programmes although I plan them are a joint effort between me and the athlete and my job is to ensure it works for them, is realistic but also achievable and fun.
